FAQs and spray tanning advice
How do I prepare for a spray tan?
- Exfoliate and moisturise the evening before. When exfoliating, pay particular attention to dry areas like elbows, knees and ankles.
- Don’t moisturise on the day of your spray tan as this can act as a barrier.
- Get waxed 48 hours before or shave 24 hours before.
- If you need to shower, do so at least one hour before your spray tanning appointment.
- Don’t wear make up, perfume, deodorant or jewellery.
What should I wear for my spray tanning appointment?
- Most clients wear just their knickers and a few prefer to leave a bra or bikini top on. Some go completely naked. It’s entirely up to you to do whatever makes you feel most comfortable.
What should I wear after my spray tanning appointment?
- Wear dark, loose, comfortable clothing. The solution washes out of most clothing but may stain some nylon and silk.
How long will the spray tanning results last?
- Depending on your skin type and aftercare routine, your spray tan should last 3 – 14 days.
How often can I have a spray tan?
- You can have a spray tan as often as you like. I have clients who spray tan every 2 weeks, but for those that prefer weekly, I recommend completely exfoliating off any old tan every 2 appointments.
Spray tanning aftercare
- After your spray tanning appointment, don’t shower or take excessive exercise for at least 8 hours.
- Shaving has a similar effect to exfoliating so avoid it if you can.
- Lightly exfoliate any areas of dry skin as the tan fades to ensure it fades evenly.
- Avoid soaking in the bath and swimming in chlorinated pools as this may strip your tan.
- Moisturise every day.
